Essay

It was a cold winter morning, the sun had just risen, and the streets were empty. I was walking down the sidewalk, lost in my thoughts, when I heard a voice calling my name. I turned around and saw my best friend, Sarah, standing there with a look of hurt and disappointment on her face.

I knew immediately what had happened. The night before, I had said something careless and hurtful to her during a heated argument. The argument was about her boyfriend and I had said that he was not good for her and that she deserved better. I had been so caught up in my own emotions that I hadn't stopped to think about how my words would affect her.

As she walked up to me, I felt a lump form in my throat. I had never been good at apologizing, and this was going to be one of the toughest apologies I had ever had to make.

"Sarah, I am so sorry," I said, my voice shaking. "I didn't mean what I said last night. I was just angry and I didn't think about how it would hurt you."

Sarah looked at me for a moment, her expression softening. "I know you didn't mean it," she said. "But it still hurt. It was a very personal matter and you had no right to express your opinion without my permission"

I felt a wave of guilt wash over me. I had hurt my best friend, and there was nothing I could do to take back my words. I knew that I had to make it right, no matter how difficult it was going to be.

"I understand," I said. "And I will do whatever it takes to make it up to you. I promise to be more careful with my words in the future and to always think about how they will affect you."

Sarah nodded, a small smile on her face. "I appreciate that," she said. "And I forgive you."

I felt a weight lift off my shoulders as she hugged me. I knew that this apology was just the first step in making things right between us, but it was a start. From that day forward, I made sure to be more mindful of my words and actions and to always think about how they would affect others. And, most importantly, I always made sure to apologize when I was wrong.
