Threats:
1. Increased/high competition: This could make it harder to calculate competitive prices or may require the business to set lower prices.
2. Unfamiliarity with the brand: Customers are less likely to buy from a business they don't know, which could lower revenue.
3. High cost of designing a website: The website needs to be clear, attractive, and easy to use, which the business might not be able to afford.
4. Technical problems/no power can lead to potential sales loss.
Opportunities:
1. Increase potential number of customers/sales: E-commerce allows businesses to access customers around the world, thus increasing market share.
2. Low-cost promotion/advertising: E-commerce provides an affordable way to promote and raise awareness for the business.
3. Fewer employees needed result in lower labor costs.
4. No/fewer physical shops needed can lead to cost savings.
Justification:
One threat is the increased competition, where the business may have to lower prices. However, e-commerce can help new businesses by expanding their potential market, leading to higher revenue. Given that competition is a challenge all new businesses face, the broader market that e-commerce offers can still generate the necessary sales for a successful start. Therefore, I believe there are more opportunities than threats for new businesses venturing into e-commerce.
