-There may be improvements in the education of women which enable them to increase their skills and raise their earning potential

-There may be a rise in part-time and or flexible employment making it easier for women to combine working and caring for families

-Increases in the cost of living may create a need for higher family income

-Government measures to encourage the entry of women into the labour force e.g. provision of free or subsidised childcare
